Berberis thunbergii 'atropurpurea'

 

Common name: Purple Barberry, Berberis.

Description of the plant: A deciduous shrub. It grows up to 2 meters, with usual 0.5 to 1 m. Rounded shape. Very prickly. It has a very dense vegetation with small purple-red leaves. Leaves: small, oval purple, which gives a great ornamental value. The yellow flowers of berberis, and stained pale red that give rise to red fruit in autumn.

Flowering: spring.

Exposure: full sun or partial shade.

Watering: Moderate.
